Celebrate National Pet Wellness Month: Tips to Keep Your Dog Happy & Healthy

celebrate national pet wellness month: tips to keep your dog

October is known as National Pet Wellness Month. Dogtopia is committed to ensuring that your dog’s safety, health, and happiness are all taken into consideration. Here are some tips and tricks that you can use at your home to celebrate National Pet Wellness Month.

Healthy Dog Treats

Fatty treats and table scraps are easy and tempting to feed your dog but can lead to weight gain and lack of nutrition. And since we all want our dogs to grow up to be strong and healthy, it’s important to be mindful of how you reward and treat your dog. Dog treats are great for training and rewarding but it’s best to only use them for special occasions! You can reward your dog with fresh fruits and vegetables if you want to reward them in a healthy manner and on a regular basis. You have many options: carrots, blueberries and strawberries, as well as apples, green beans and blueberries. Carrots are rich in fiber and betacarotene which help produce vitamin A. Green beans are rich in iron, calcium, as well as other vital vitamins and minerals. Vitamin C and taste are high in blueberries, strawberries, apples, and other fruits. While you’re at the grocery store, feel free to pick up a few of these healthy alternatives to see which your dog loves the most.

Dog Food & Nutrition

In addition to healthy treats, it is important to follow a vet-recommended feeding schedule. You may have to give your dog a particular type of food, or adjust the amount of meals they have per day depending on their age, size and breed. Puppies may need extra food depending on the stage of their development. Older dogs may need fewer meals per day or a more balanced diet.

You must ensure that dogs get enough nutrients. Water, protein, healthy fats, carbohydrates and vitamins and minerals are just a few of the nutrients you should be aware. Take a moment to ake sure your dog’s food meets the AAFCO standards.

We’re excited to announce that we’ve partnered with NutriSource Pet Foods, a third-generation family-owned business, to provide healthy and nutritious food and treats for our dogs. Regular Grooming

Regularly pampering your dog not only helps them look fresh and clean but is also a great opportunity to familiarize yourself with every aspect of your dog. You can quickly identify a problem before it escalates, such as a cracked or painful nail. Some important areas to regularly groom are your dog’s nails, teeth and fur. Your dog’s nails should be kept trimmed as often and as frequently as necessary to avoid them touching the ground while they are standing. Teeth should also be brushed daily to prevent infection. If your dog is irritated or has cuts below the fur, you can brush it and give it a bath. Some dogs require more grooming than others so make sure you stay on top of your dog’s needs just as you would for a child.

Exercise & Socialization

Exercise is one of the most important activities you can provide for your dog. You can take your dog for daily walks, play fetch, swim, hike, or make an obstacle course at home. Regular exercise builds a strong bond with your dog and keeps blood pressure and energy low. This will ensure that your dog stays healthy for many years to come. Is your dog asking for more exercise after a long walk? Or maybe they get bored with the same routine every day? Dogs are social creatures. They want to play and be around other dogs. Dogtopia offers dog daycare for dogs. This is a great place to socialize with your dog and get some exercise. It’s like childcare for your dog.

Dogtopia dogs are separated according to size and temperament. They are taken care of by highly-trained Canine Coaches. Dogs can enjoy a wide variety of mental, and physical games throughout the day. These playroom activities reinforce positive behaviors that dogs can exhibit at home, such as following the leader and name recall. Dogtopia daycare dogs can walk on average 30,000 steps per hour while playing with their Best Furry Friend Forever (BFFF). That’s a lot of steps and a lot of fun!

Dogs who have been to daycare are used to being social and able to meet new dogs and people. Taking them to a restaurant, dog park, farmer’s market, friend’s house or anywhere else in public is generally much less stressful for both you and your pup.

National Pet Wellness Month has begun, and we encourage you to take the time to ensure that your dog receives the proper nutrition and care.
