Neuroaxonal dystrophy in dogs can result in a range of symptoms depending on which part of a dog’s brain have been affected. The most common symptoms are:
- It seems uncoordinated
- Tremors in the neck or head
- Vitamin E deficiency
- Stumbling upon
The Causes of Neuroaxonal Dystrophy InDogs
Unfortunately, we don’t know the exact cause of neuroaxonal dysfunction in dogs. Some breeds of dog are more susceptible to developing this disease, even though it is an inheritance condition.
The following are some of the most common breeds that appear to be affected by this condition:
Senior dogs and dogs that have been exposed may be at higher risk.
Your veterinarian will perform a thorough physical examination if your dog seems to be suffering from neuroaxonal disorder. They’ll order blood and urine tests. The first step in diagnosing a case involves excluding other medical conditions that could cause similar symptoms.
Unfortunately, NAD in dogs is not curable.
After confirming their diagnosis, the vet may prescribe anti-inflammatory and pain medication for your dog. Vitamin E supplements are also available to help with any symptoms. It is important that you follow all instructions and dosages if your vet recommends medication for your dog.
