The Richmond SPCA is redesigning the Dog Jog and 5K Run for 2021 and will host the event in person at Deep Run Park from March 19-21. At the same time, it offers participants the opportunity to run the route wherever they want.
Participants can choose to run, walk or jog with their dogs on the official Dog Jog and 5K Run courses at Deep Run Park or use their own courses in the RaceJoy app and participate from anywhere.
“The way the community comes together each year for our Dog Jog and 5K Run to support homeless animals shows the compassion and love that RVA has for dogs and cats in need,” said Tamsen Kingry, Chief Executive Officer from Richmond SPCA. “While the ongoing public health crisis required changes in the way it was conducted, we wanted to enable fans of this event to safely attend while promoting the life-saving work they so value.”
Funds raised from Dog Jog and 5K Run participants will benefit approximately 4,000 homeless animals that will be housed with the Richmond SPCA this year, as well as the life-saving programs and services the nonprofit provides to pets and humans, including low-cost veterinary services Care at Susan M. Markel Veterinary Hospital. The organization’s fundraising goal for 2021 is $ 50,000.
Event registration fees include several new elements to provide attendees and their pets with an interactive, self-guided experience. The first 500 registered participants will receive:
• a limited edition dog jog and a 5K Run cotton short-sleeved T-shirt;
• a Dog Jog and 5K Run medal and pet tag;
• a goodie bag with gifts from the sponsors of the event;
• a personal donation page to raise funds for pets in need;
• Free access to the RaceJoy app for race management, time recording and authorization for 5K finisher prices.
Until the February 28 early bird registration deadline, the registration fee is $ 35 to register for the 1-mile jog and / or the 5-km race, which can be done with or without a dog. For those who only want to collect money as a “Cat Nap” participant, a free registration is possible.
Holiday Barn Pet Resorts is sponsoring the event.
